The word diet comes from the old Greek word "diaeta or diaita" which means "Way of Life!".
People ask me all the time "you still on that diet thing?" LOL! and I have to laugh and I go yes because that's my "way of life!' and I enjoy the way I eat so I enjoy my "diet" because I know it's healthy, I feel good, and I love the food I eat! The way I eat and the time I eat.
But, the way I eat may not be the way everyone else should eat. Everyone needs to find the diet or "way of life" that works for them! One that first and foremost is healthy, but then beyond that, one they enjoy, one they can do consistently, one that they can stick with for the rest of their life.
My " way of life!" or "diet," right now, is my lifestyle I love the way I eat, I love the food I eat, I don't miss any of the foods that I don't eat anymore, which is key so I'm not craving or trying to cheat, even giving up drinking I don't miss, but that's not for everybody, I get that this is what works for me and you need to find the "way of life" or "diet" that works for you as long as it's a good healthy one.
If your "way of life" is eating crap and binge drinking all the time then that path you are going down is going to be one that may end up towards chronic disease and an unhealthy lifestyle in your older years, especially as we get older our metabolism changes, it slows down and we're dealing with all kinds of metabolic issues that change the way our body functions.
If we continue to try to eat and drink and try to relive our College days, then we're probably headed towards a brick wall eventually and then you are going to be forced to change your diet when you have a heart attack or when your on chemotherapy or when you feel your joints start falling apart because your diet was crap.
Now some say it's genetic, they always throw that out there and true we all have genetic predispositions to certain chronic diseases, thyroid issues, etc. So if you look at your family history like mine, I know there's a history of diabetes and that was one thing that motivated me to get healthier on top of other issues, seeing family members going through different types of chronic disease.
But the genetic makeup doesn't guarantee you're going to get any chronic disease it just means you're susceptible to it and the way you eat is going to set the stage for the incubator of those chronic diseases in your body.
So you have control over the incubator for where those chronic diseases or cancers can grow that's what you do have control of! You may not have control of the genetic side of what was given to you, but if you look at your family history and see the diseases that your family has dealt with, whatever that maybe, then you have a picture of what to avoid if you eat healthy and if you plan that out, that can send you on a path to longevity to living fruitful in your older years instead of sitting around counting your pills that you take everyday, and preparing for the next bypass, or hip surgery, etc.
